About Islamic Society
Welcome to the
Islamic Society
The ISOC represents a very vibrant Muslim community here in Nottingham, and our principal goal is to foster a welcoming community so that the people coming to this city can enjoy the capacity to not only feel part of a massive family, but also to flourish in a spiritually uplifting environment, strengthened by our beliefs, whether they're Muslim or they're just someone looking for a friendly face during the hustle-and-bustle of university.
Throughout the year there is always something going on, as the ISOC hosts various spheres of student life (Socials/Sports, Education, Community, etc). You will find that we frequently host:
- Weekly Football and Netball sessions
- Regular Meetups in the Portland Building
- Inter-University Football Tournaments
- Frequent Socials/Activities in various venues around Nottingham
- Three large Dinners hosted each academic year
- Getaway trips/socials around the UK
- On top of all that, alot of students actually socialise between all these many events in fact, whenever they stop by the Prayer Rooms in between daily lectures and thereby get to meet and socialise with everyone that's there at the time
As for student's religious and spritual development, the ISOC also hosts:
- A weekly educational series covering one primary topic (e.g Self-Purification, Rationality in Faith, etc) each term
- Frequent Talks presented by qualified scholars
- Student-Led Circles of knowledge/discussion
- Weekly Quran Class sessions where the teacher personalises your learning to whatever your current knowledge-level is
Beyond all these, the ISOC also no doubt caters to the fundamentals of the Muslim community too in:
- Having Prayer Rooms on all three campuses that anyone can walk into for daily prayers, often in congregation
- Weekly Friday Prayers hosted in all three campuses
- Eid-Prayer Congregations hosted twice each year--the largest Eid congregations in Nottinghamshire
- Iftar Meals, and Taraweeh-Prayer gatherings throughout Ramadan which bring the whole community together
Whether you're looking to make your time at university one of great religious-development, or whether you simply want to be able to socialise in environments that you're a bit more comfortable with, or even if you have no prior link with Muslims or with religiousity at all but you just want your time at university to be one where you develop wholesome bonds and feel welcomed into a large brotherhood/sisterhood, the ISOC is looking forward to providing a wonderful year for everyone, God willing
Committee
All of our clubs and societies are run by a committee.
A committee is a team of people that lead, organise and publicise a group within your Students’ Union.
It can be really rewarding as well as being a great way to gain experience and invaluable skills for your future career.
